EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

At ROSECROFT our extra curricular activities are invaluable in developing your child’s talents and practical skills

ACTIVITIES

SWIMMING

At Rosecroft swimming is an intergral part of our PE curriculum. Children are enrolled in the swimming programme from age 4. This enables the children to build confidence in the water, which is the first step towards learning to swim. Swimming is taken by child friendly tried and tested swimming instructors under the watchful eyes of our teachers who themselves swim with the children. Gradually any fears the children had is replaced with a love for swimming as they move from using swimming aids to swimming without aids then learning different styles in a mini Olympic sized swimming pool. There is a small charge to cover the cost.

DANCE

Dance is offered as an extra-curricular activity. The children in conjunction with their teacher choose the dance style to be learned each term. Rather than focus on just ballet we add contemporary and traditional dance- at the end of each term the children have a performance presentation.
The focus in our dance classes is the development of the following key skills to enhance performance
• good posture, confidence, focus, space dynamics, mobility, flexibility, strength & balance, action co-ordination, stamina, control, good alignment, concentration determination, sense of style.

MUSIC

All our children are introduced to the theory of music and playing an instrument from age 4. As they mature and develop confidence they are entered for the distinguished ABRSM (Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music) exams (both practical and theory). Our children have been excelling at these exams gaining distinctions and merits.
Our music curriculum is structured to have children complete their Grades1-3 in both theory and practical music by the time they complete Year 6.

CATERING

Cooking can help young kids learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills. And the experience of creating meals can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

The overall physical development of the children is important. This includes developing body control, strength, manipulative skills and an ability to use and benefit from our physical world. This is done through movement, games and indoor/outdoor play.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

Building creativity is something that happens almost simultaneously with every area of the curriculum. Movement, drama, music, art and cooking allow the children to explore sound, colour, texture, shape and to respond to what they see, hear, smell, touch and feel.

PRACTICAL LIFE EXERCISES

Children learn freely with adult help how to button their shirt, tie their shoes, clean house and other activities. Good manners are also emphasized and children learn to say “please” and “thank you.”
